MuscleNerd from the iPhone Dev-Team has posted some details on the upcoming untethered jailbreak from pod2g.

All info below is tentative and subject to last minute refinements

@pod2g’s 5.1.1 jailbreak+untether is working out great. All devices are covered except for AppleTV3,1, which currently has no path for jailbreaking.
– the initial 5.1.1 plan used a kernel exploit from @westbaer which unfortunately precluded use in iPod3,1 and iPhone2,1
– @planetbeing stepped up and provided a kernel exploit that covers both of those. Those two JBers are the bomb!

The 5.1.1 A5 JB is very similar to the A5 5.0.1 JB. @pimskeks has done a tremendous job supporting both 5.0.1 and 5.1.1 in absinthe

Similar to 5.0.1, there will also be a 5.1.1 CLI “cinject” binary and redsn0w version of the 5.1.1 JB+untether. Absinthe, cinject, and redsn0w will all provide the same JB in different fashions.
– timing is indeterminate. Plans are for this week, but a number of factors can influence that.

Xvolks has posted a video demonstrating the iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak using the new yet unreleased utility Absinthe 2.0.

I’ve tested Absinthe v2 on my iPhone 4 GSM, iOS 5.1.1. It jailbroke it flawlessly. I’ve took a (bad) video of it 😉

The video was later removed from the public, but you know there is nothing that can be hidden 🙂

Pod2g has recently announced in twitter that the untethered jailbreak of iOS 5.1.1 is just days away from release. This is great news for many iPhone, iPad and iPod users.

The iPhone Dev-Team released RedSn0w 0.9.11b4 with support for the tethered jailbreak of A4 devices on iOS 5.1.1 – iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 1, iPod Touch 3G and iPod Touch 4G.

Version 0.9.11b4 completes the tethered JB support for 5.1.1 on A4 devices and earlier, including proper “Stitching” and “Custom” creation of NO_BB IPSWs.

The GEVEY Ultra 5.1 for the GSM iPhone 4 has been recalled since it used Loktar Sun’s free method (aka SAM unlock) to unlock your device which has been disabled by Apple. Apple N Berry is offering a full refund to customers who purchased the device. You can read their official statement here.

UPDATE: Gevey Ultra 5.1 does not work any more.

Gevey has released the Ultra 5.1 to unlock the GSM iPhone 4 on iOS 5.1. The new version supports the following modem versions: 01.59, 2.10, 3.10.1, 4.10.1, 4.11.08, and 4.12.01.

The new GEVEY Ultra unlocks your GSM iPhone 4 running iOS 5.1 and earlier and now supports modem firmware versions 1.59, 2.10, 3.10.1, 4.10.1, 4.11.08, and 4.12.01. Currently, a tethered Jailbreak is available for iOS 5.1 for iPhone 4, and you will also need to install the latest Furious Mod file for proper operation.

Pod2g has bypassed ASLR at bootup, making progress towards the public release of an iOS 5.1 jailbreak. ASLR is a security method that randomly arranges important data areas. This is one more step toward untethered iOS 5.1 jailbreak for all devices including iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and new iPad 3.

ASLR seems bypassed! Weird machines FTW. Time to ROP the payload.

Earlier this week pod2g revealed that the Chronic Dev-Team now has all the exploits required to release a userland jailbreak of iOS 5.1. It takes time to put them together in a public ready tool.

The iPhone Dev-Team has released updated RedSn0w 0.9.10b6b for Mac OS that fixes an issue for those on Mac OS X 10.5.x or earlier.

Update #1b: The OS X version of redsn0w has been updated to fix an issue for those running OS X 10.5.x or earlier.

This week Gareth Wright reported that Facebook’s app for iOS has a security vulnerability through which malicious users can access login credentials saved in a .plist file of the app. With a copy of that .plist file malicious users could automatically log into the affected user’s Facebook account on another device. Reportedly, the vulnerability also exists on Android devices.

FireCore announced today that they have successfully jailbroken the Apple TV 2 with the latest iOS 5.1 (5.0). The jailbreak is tethered which requires the Apple TV to be connected to a Mac/PC when powering it on (each time).

Today we’re happy to release new versions of Seas0nPass and aTV Flash (black) that are compatible with latest 5.0 (iOS 5.1) software running on the ATV2.
