Here is a nice video overview of popular Cydia apps.

My personal top 30 Cydia tweaks of 2011. The tweaks chosen are both new and old, popular and unpopular. 30 is a big number so, I hope that most of you are able to find a tweak that you will enjoy having on your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad. The tweaks are my personal picks and we all will have our opinion. I know that there are allot of other awesome Cydia tweaks that I was unable to mention but, feel free to tell us about them in a video response or comment.

Cydia tweaks include: Tab+, Multiconmover, Infiniboard, Infinidock, SBSettings, Alphacon, Android Delete, Graviboard, Grid Lock, Animate Battery, Winterboard, Flipover, List Launcher, Cy Delete, Folder Enhancer, Pull to Refresh Safari, RetinaPad, Barrel, Camera Wallpaper, icon renamer, double tap to open, Pagenames, iSwipe, Stayopened, iTypeappleicon, retina app, icons, page pusher, Bytafont, AndroidLock XT, Insomnia

If you have never done jailbreak, you might want to try :)

SBSettings is a great application to quickly turn on and off different services. Recently two developers have released tethering toggles to easily enable and disable iPhone tethering from SBSettings.

The first called, “Tethering” by Filipe Pina makes changes to the files that the preferences framework makes, then restarts the service. The second called, “Tether” by Ryan Petrich uses the preferences frameworks and calls the functions that the settings app calls.

According to BigBoss, both toggles work well. You can download togles and SBSettings via Cydia (for jailbreaked iPhones only).

purplera1n1 Purplera1n: iPhone 3GS jailbreak by GeoHot

Geohot released a beta software for iPhone 3GS jailbreak called PurpleRa1n. It is beta and has some issues, but it gets the job done if you’re patient.

Requirements: You must have
1) Windows xp sp2, Vista, Windows 7, MAC OS
2) iTunes 8.2.0.23
3) Purplera1n software

The jailbreak is a bit incomplete. The kernel vm_mem patch is not present so Winterboard will not work as some other critical tweaks. (SBSettings does work!).

Use with caution and be patient. If you’re not in a hurry, wait for the release from DevTeam.

sbsettings icon1 SBSettings 3.0 soon

SBSettings is a very useful and interesting application for jailbreaked iPhones. Th edeveloper is working hard on a new version of this app. It will be compartible with new firmware 3.0. Several features will be also added to the this new release.

jailbreak skype Skype crashes on jailbraked iPhones

If you have jailbreaked iPhone your Skype app may crash. Here is what we know so far:

  • If Skype crashes when trying to input text: Disable both Clippy (Use SBSettings toggle) and any custom Winterboard sounds relating to the keyboard tick (tock.aiff).
  • If Skype crashes within 1 minute of having the app open: Update app called mobile substrate in Cydia. Uninstalling mobile substrate also fixes the problem, but you will lose features such as winterboard and sbsettings.

UPDATE: Many users report that Skype works fine with the latest version of Clippy (0.98-2) without the need to turn the latter off.

We had a post about SBSettings – the future of BossPrefs (link). Couple days ago this application became  avaliable in Cydia.

SBSettings doenst have an icon so after you install to access it you must slide across the statusbar (aka the top bar that displays service, time, battery, etc.)

Current version is 0.92. But the application is updated almost every day.

This application is avaliable for jailbreaked iPhones via Cydia installer.

Many users of jailbreaked iPhones use application called BossPrefs. The developer of this app is creating a new one. The new application will be called SBSettings.

The toggles drop down when you swipe along the status bar. It is very fast and can be used while in any app without exiting the app. Suppose you are in Safari but realize your 3g is not yet enabled. Just swipe the statusbar and toggle 3g, than resume in Safari where you left off. The advantage is there is no need to exit Safari and load settings or bossprefs.

The look and feel of this new app will be something like this:
