Saurik has just released an update to Cydia that brings us one step closer to a stable jailbreak.

Cydia 1.1.14 no longer causes your device to lock up while booting on iOS 8 when you use a passcode. If you have installed unsupported modifications you may want to restore and jailbreak again, as those modifications are not supported.

Here’s what’s new:

Multitasking Support on iOS 8:
Cydia now backgrounds almost like a regular application (but only on iOS 8). This has been a major architectural change: please alert us to any issues.

This allows you to switch back/forth between Cydia and other applications (Such as Safari, or the Google two-factor authentication app) without losing your package selection state.

New Window and Hijack Blocking:
One of the biggest complaints about Cydia in the last year has been a new kind of ad seen on some repositories: a sudden redirect to the App Store.

Cydia now blocks “popups” and asks the user before opening the App Store.

Partial iPhone 6 Plus Support:
Cydia supports rotation on the iPhone 6 Plus and has a new @3x icon and tabbar. Cydia renders at the native resolution on both the 6 and 6 Plus.

Videos Work Again (on iOS 7.1-8.1):
Cydia on iOS 7.1 had an issue where playing video would cause the device to “lock up”. This bug has finally been fixed! The new iOS 8 video issue (a YouTube error message) is also fixed.

Localization Works Now on iOS 8:
Users of Cydia 1.1.13 (only available via a manual installation process) may have noticed Cydia only displayed in English :( . This has been fixed! Yay!

Queue Status is “Less Incorrect”:
Sometimes Cydia would not have packages queued but claim it did, or would have packages queued and claim it did not; this happens less ;P.

Saurik also notes that there are still some issues specific to iOS 8.

“When installing packages that put icons on SpringBoard, the icons may not appear. Rebooting might make them appear. This is because our ‘uicache’ tool, which refreshes icons, has not yet been updated for iOS 8. We are working on this, and a fix will come later as part of the UIKit Tools package as soon as we can manage.”

Hopefully now that the major passcode issue has been resolved, we may see a stable release of the Pangu jailbreak utility with Cydia.

Good news for all jailbreakers: i0n1c has just posted a video showing his new utility for untethered jailbreak of iOS 7.1.1. It is called Cyberelevat0r and according to its creator, to jailbreak iOS 7.1.1 it uses a recently discovered kernel bug. Nobody knows for sure if the hacker plans to release Cyberelevat0r to public or not. Anyway, let’s take a look at how it works.

As noted by iClarified reporters,

The jailbreak, which has not yet been released, is unique in that it uses a kernel bug which is hidden inside functionality that can be easily reached, even from within the iOS application sandbox.

I honestly hope that i0n1c will release its untethered jailbreak of iOS 7.1.1. However, I don’t think that the release will take place before the release of Apple’s iOS 8. You see, the hackers need to make sure that the bug used for jailbreak remains unpatched.

Apple is expected to announce its iOS 8 at the annual Worldwide Developers Conference, which is set to take place in June. The jailbreak may be released after the conference.

You’ve probably heard about the iOS 7.1.1 jailbreak developed by i0n1c and Winocm. As it turns out, there’s another jailbreak. It was developed by the researchers Yeongjin Jang and Tielei Wang.

The jailbreak seems to be legit, however, there’s no official confirmation from trustworthy sources.

Here’s what iClarified writes about the new jailbreak:

Researchers Yeongjin Jang and Tielei Wang of the Georgia Tech Information Security Center (GTISC) disclosed that they jailbroke iOS 7.1.1 late last month. Jang (@blue9057), a grad student at Gatech, has posted a video to YouTube demonstrating the jailbreak.

The authors of the jailbreak promise to tell how it works in August. It would be interesting to see how it differs from those jailbreaks developed by i0n1c or Winocm. Anyway, we’ll get such an opportunity only in a couple of months. Let’s wait.

Stefan Esser (aka i0n1c), a hacker behind iOS 7.1.1 jailbreak, has explained how he managed to hack his iPhone.

i0n1c jailbreak 500x377 I0n1c Has Explained How His iOS 7.1.1 Jailbreak Works

According to what i0n1c writes, his jailbreak uses a new kernel bug. This vulnerability differs from those that were used previously.

Here’s what he points out in his blog (via iClarified):

This means that the exploit code can be used to break out of any application that you exploit. This is very different from nearly all of the kernel vulnerabilities used in iOS jailbreaks since iOS 4.

In case you don’t know, i0n1c on Sunday shared a photo of a jailbroken iPhone 5c with iOS 7.1.1 on board running Cydia. Another hacker, Winocm, posted a video showing a jailbroken iPhone 4.

The jailbreak has not yet been released. I think we should wait for a while.

Good news for all jailbreakers -- iOS 7.1.1 has been jailbroken. According to the image shared by famous security researcher Stefan Esser aka i0n1c, the devices running iOS 7.1.1 can be successfully hacked.

What we can see on the image is an iPhone 5c running Cydia 1.1.9. Here’s what the hacker says about the jailbreak (via iClarified):

That iOS 7.1.1 jailbreak is not based on a long vulnerability chain. It uses a single beautiful kernel bug that goes from mobile to kernel.

A couple of minutes after i0n1c, another hacker -- Winocm -- posted a video of a jailbroken iPhone 4 running iOS 7.1.1. You can take a look at the clip below.

The hacker claims that this jailbreak will work on other devices if ‘you put in the effort’.

I don’t know if the jailbreak for iOS 7.1.1 will become public or not. Anyway, let’s hope for the best.

A3 tweaks, a group of hackers behind Auxo, a tweak that allowed to extend the functionality of the app switcher in iOS 5 and iOS 6, has announced the Auxo 2 -- an updated jailbreak tweak compatible with iOS 7. Take a look.

In case you don’t know, this tweak is capable of adding music controls, Settings menu toggles and other items to your app switcher in order to make it more intuitive, efficient and functional.

According to iDownloadBlog,

We first saw evidence of Auxo 2 at the beginning of the month, when the group’s UI designer Sentry posted a pair of 6-second video clips teasing some of the tweak’s features. And today, a much longer trailer has been posted.

Auxo 2 is expected to be released very soon -- on April 2nd. Without a doubt, it will be available on Cydia. Well, that’s all I can tell you at the moment. Stay tuned for more news on the topic.

I’ve got some good news for those iPhone 4s users, who plan to jailbreak their iPhones running iOS 7.1. It is possible to hack the older models of Apple’s smartphones. However, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you should upgrade to the latest version of iOS right now. And here’s why.

iphone4s jailbreak ios7.1 500x256 iH8Sn0w Confirms Untethered Jailbreak on iPhone 4s Running iOS 7.1

Following Winocm, who has recently posted a video showing the iOS 7.1 untethered jailbreak on iPhone 4, another hacker – iH8Sn0w – on Wednesday confirmed the successful jailbreak of his iPhone 4s running the same Apple’s iOS 7.1.

Here’s what he tweeted:

NGeary14: @iH8sn0w Can you jailbreak 7.1 iPhone 4s or only 4 ??

iH8Sn0w: @NGeary14 well my 4S is jailbroken on 7.1 atm.

Looks like it is possible to jailbreak any iOS device equipped with an Apple A4 or Apple A5 processor. As to the other iPhones and iPads, there’s no information yet.

iH8Sn0w claims that there won’t be any public jailbreak, at least now. That is why I recommend you to stay away from iOS 7.1. Especially if you have an iPhone 5/5c with Apple A6 CPU or iPhone 5s with Apple A7 CPU on board.

Winocm has posted a video demonstrating an untethered jailbreak of iOS 7.1 on a Verizon iPhone 4 (n92).

There is no information yet when or whether the jailbreak will be released.

A new tweak has recently appeared on Cydia that lets you use your iPhone 5 or iPod touch to capture slow motion videos, even though these devices are believed to not support a slow motion mode. The tweak is called Slo-mo Mod and it is available for free on BigBoss repo.

Slo mo Mod 500x374 Capture Slow Motion Videos Using Slo mo Mod New Cydia Tweak

As noted by iDownloadBlog,

One of the iPhone 5s’ flagship features, the Camera app’s baked-in slow motion mode, is now available to owners of older devices like the iPhone 5, and the iPod touch 5th generation. Slo-mo Mod is the jailbreak tweak that makes it so that slow motion mode is no longer an iPhone 5s exclusive.

The tweak can be customized and configured via Settings app. That means you can either turn Slo-mo Mod on or off or try to change some parameters to make the tweak work more efficient.

So, if you want to capture slow motion videos using your iPhone 5, iPhone 4s or iPod touch, Slo-mo Mod is definitely a worth downloading tweak.

Good news for all those who miss iOS 6 -- there’s a new tweak on Cydia that brings back the old school unlock sound. It is compatible with iPhones and iPads running iOS 7 and I must admit it works just perfect. It’s name is UnlockSound7.

Guys from iDownloadBlog and Jeff Benjamin in particular were among the first to spot the tweak on BigBoss repo. Here’s what they write about it and here’s the video they made, showing how UnlockSound7 works:

UnlockSound7 is a new jailbreak tweak that allows users to regain the iPhone’s iconic unlock sound that occurs when unlocking the device. Take a look at our video walkthrough to see how it works.

As I mentioned above, the tweak is available on Cydia’s BigBoss repository. It’s free, so go and get it.
