You’ve probably heard about the iOS 7.1.1 jailbreak developed by i0n1c and Winocm. As it turns out, there’s another jailbreak. It was developed by the researchers Yeongjin Jang and Tielei Wang.

The jailbreak seems to be legit, however, there’s no official confirmation from trustworthy sources.

Here’s what iClarified writes about the new jailbreak:

Researchers Yeongjin Jang and Tielei Wang of the Georgia Tech Information Security Center (GTISC) disclosed that they jailbroke iOS 7.1.1 late last month. Jang (@blue9057), a grad student at Gatech, has posted a video to YouTube demonstrating the jailbreak.

The authors of the jailbreak promise to tell how it works in August. It would be interesting to see how it differs from those jailbreaks developed by i0n1c or Winocm. Anyway, we’ll get such an opportunity only in a couple of months. Let’s wait.

Stefan Esser (aka i0n1c), a hacker behind iOS 7.1.1 jailbreak, has explained how he managed to hack his iPhone.

i0n1c jailbreak 500x377 I0n1c Has Explained How His iOS 7.1.1 Jailbreak Works

According to what i0n1c writes, his jailbreak uses a new kernel bug. This vulnerability differs from those that were used previously.

Here’s what he points out in his blog (via iClarified):

This means that the exploit code can be used to break out of any application that you exploit. This is very different from nearly all of the kernel vulnerabilities used in iOS jailbreaks since iOS 4.

In case you don’t know, i0n1c on Sunday shared a photo of a jailbroken iPhone 5c with iOS 7.1.1 on board running Cydia. Another hacker, Winocm, posted a video showing a jailbroken iPhone 4.

The jailbreak has not yet been released. I think we should wait for a while.

Good news for all jailbreakers -- iOS 7.1.1 has been jailbroken. According to the image shared by famous security researcher Stefan Esser aka i0n1c, the devices running iOS 7.1.1 can be successfully hacked.

What we can see on the image is an iPhone 5c running Cydia 1.1.9. Here’s what the hacker says about the jailbreak (via iClarified):

That iOS 7.1.1 jailbreak is not based on a long vulnerability chain. It uses a single beautiful kernel bug that goes from mobile to kernel.

A couple of minutes after i0n1c, another hacker -- Winocm -- posted a video of a jailbroken iPhone 4 running iOS 7.1.1. You can take a look at the clip below.

The hacker claims that this jailbreak will work on other devices if ‘you put in the effort’.

I don’t know if the jailbreak for iOS 7.1.1 will become public or not. Anyway, let’s hope for the best.

Earlier this week it was reported that iOS 7 doesn’t encrypt email attachments, though it should. The only possible way out was not to detach important or confidential files to emails, but fortunately, another one appeared on Wednesday.

email encryption tweak 392x400 Attachment Encryptor: Fix for Email Encryption Issue

A developer named Ryan Petrich released a new jailbreak tweak that helps to fix the email encryption issue. This tweak is called ‘Attachment Encryptor’.

Here’s what iDownloadBlog reporters write about Petrich’s creation:

Prominent jailbreak developer Ryan Petrich released ‘Attachment Encryptor’ this evening, a tweak that patches the aforementioned bug. All you have to do is install it and respring your iPhone or iPad.

The tweak is available for free via Petrich’s beta repo. You can add it by entering ‘Manage’ tab in Cydia and hitting Sources and Add sections. After you select the last menu, you need to enter http://rpetri.ch/repo/. That’s all.

I honestly hope that Apple will fix the issue in the next iOS version.

A3 tweaks, a group of hackers behind Auxo, a tweak that allowed to extend the functionality of the app switcher in iOS 5 and iOS 6, has announced the Auxo 2 -- an updated jailbreak tweak compatible with iOS 7. Take a look.

In case you don’t know, this tweak is capable of adding music controls, Settings menu toggles and other items to your app switcher in order to make it more intuitive, efficient and functional.

According to iDownloadBlog,

We first saw evidence of Auxo 2 at the beginning of the month, when the group’s UI designer Sentry posted a pair of 6-second video clips teasing some of the tweak’s features. And today, a much longer trailer has been posted.

Auxo 2 is expected to be released very soon -- on April 2nd. Without a doubt, it will be available on Cydia. Well, that’s all I can tell you at the moment. Stay tuned for more news on the topic.

The evad3rs on Friday released an updated evasi0n7 jailbreak utility. It is still impossible to jailbreak iPhone 5, 5c and 5s running iOS 7.1, however, evasi0n7 1.0.8 brings support for iOS 7.0 build 11A466.

evasi0n7 1.0.8 Evad3rs Release New Version of Their Jailbreak Utility Evasi0n7 1.0.8

11A466 is probably a factory build, which means it is not available for download. This iOS 7 version is installed primarily on new devices. For instance, one user says that iPhone 5s, which he got from Apple as a replacement for his damaged smartphone, is currently running iOS 7 build 11A466. He adds that he can’t jailbreak his new device.

As noted by iDownloadBlog,

At some point during the past week or so, the evad3rs released an update for evasi0n7, bringing the jailbreak tool to version 1.0.8. According to the change log, the software now supports build 11A466 of iOS 7.

The updated evasi0n7 jailbreak utility is available on the evad3rs’ official website. One can download it any time now.

I’ve got some good news for those iPhone 4s users, who plan to jailbreak their iPhones running iOS 7.1. It is possible to hack the older models of Apple’s smartphones. However, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you should upgrade to the latest version of iOS right now. And here’s why.

iphone4s jailbreak ios7.1 500x256 iH8Sn0w Confirms Untethered Jailbreak on iPhone 4s Running iOS 7.1

Following Winocm, who has recently posted a video showing the iOS 7.1 untethered jailbreak on iPhone 4, another hacker – iH8Sn0w – on Wednesday confirmed the successful jailbreak of his iPhone 4s running the same Apple’s iOS 7.1.

Here’s what he tweeted:

NGeary14: @iH8sn0w Can you jailbreak 7.1 iPhone 4s or only 4 ??

iH8Sn0w: @NGeary14 well my 4S is jailbroken on 7.1 atm.

Looks like it is possible to jailbreak any iOS device equipped with an Apple A4 or Apple A5 processor. As to the other iPhones and iPads, there’s no information yet.

iH8Sn0w claims that there won’t be any public jailbreak, at least now. That is why I recommend you to stay away from iOS 7.1. Especially if you have an iPhone 5/5c with Apple A6 CPU or iPhone 5s with Apple A7 CPU on board.

Winocm has posted a video demonstrating an untethered jailbreak of iOS 7.1 on a Verizon iPhone 4 (n92).

There is no information yet when or whether the jailbreak will be released.

As you probably know, Apple has recently released iOS 7.1 to users worldwide. However, I recommend that you should wait for a while and don’t update since Apple has patched the kernel exploit used by evasi0n7 jailbreak tool. What this means is that it is temporarily impossible to hack the device running iOS 7.1, either it is an iPhone or iPad or iPod touch.

evasion7 patched 7.1 500x211 Bad News for Jailbreakers: iOS 7.1 Patches Evasi0n7 Jailbreak

As noted by iClarified,

This is a warning to all jailbreakers. Apple has patched the evasi0n7 jailbreak with the release of iOS 7.1.

Please do not update if you wish to retain your jailbreak. You will not be able to downgrade back to to 7.0.6.

As to the all those people who don’t care about their jailbreak, they’re free to update since the new version contains a bunch of important enhancements, new features and security tweaks. So, it’s up to you to decide whether update or not. Well, that’s all.

According to John Gruber of Daring Fireball, the company from Cupertino has finished testing iOS 7.1 and is ready to seed it to final users any day now. The big event is likely to take place ahead of the iTunes Festival.

ios 7.1 to come very soon 500x379 Apple May Officially Release iOS 7.1 Any Day Now

The proof is available below (via iClarified):

Apple’s first iTunes Festival in the U.S. starts a week from today at SXSW in Austin. Apple is going to stream the performances to iOS devices using an app, but I’ve heard from a little birdie that the app requires iOS 7.1 (which explains why the app isn’t out yet). That means iOS 7.1 should ship any day now.

Apple’s iOS 7.1 contains a number of important security improvements, apart from that, slightly redesigned call screens and power off slider.

It should be noted, however, that those who use jailbroken devices should not hurry and upgrade to the new iOS version as soon as it becomes available. Previously, some reports surfaced on the Internet, which prove that iOS 7.1 contains fixes for the vulnerabilities used by current jailbreak tools. Hackers have to check if this is truth or not.
