It looks like Apple has started banning iPhone hackers from the iTunes App Store.

A few day ago Sherif Hashim, the iPhone developer and hacker, tweeted that he had found an exploit in the latest iPhone OS 3.1.3, which could enable the unlock on 05.12.01 baseband for iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G. Yesterday he has been banned by Apple for the so called “security reasons”. It seems that Apple is quite angry! Here is what Sherif gets when he tries to access App Store from his iPhone:

Another iPhone hacker named iH8sn0w, the developer of Sn0wbreeze (PwnageTool alternative for Windows), tweeted saying he was also banned by Apple right after he released an exploit known as XEMN:

For now Apple isn’t banning Jailbreakers – they’re banning people who actively work to find exploits in the iPhone software to create Jailbreaks for the rest of us.

It is known, that iPad has a restrictive DRM shackles, which makes Apple the only available supplier of software for this device. So if you buy an iPad, you will have to download software only from the Apple’s AppStore. Yes, there is a big possibility of jailbreaking the gadget within the first 48 hours after its shipping since it’s based on the already jailbroken OS iPhone, but still this is not the best way of downloading applications for most of the people.

There are people, who disagree with a DRM-based strategy of software distribution. Some of them created an Anti-DRM group named Defective by Design. They told us they created an online petition that has been signed for 8,800 times since its inception 4 days ago. DbD has already sent off their first 5,000 signatures in the form of a giant postcard, which is in the photo above.

DbD’s operations manager John Sullivan says their main target is to get Apple to remove DRM and DRM enforcement from all its media and software. This is especially valuable for the iPad designed to be widely used by non-technical people who might not be aware of DRM.

- What Apple is doing with software is quite different. This is a scary step … as Apple move towards this model in the future,

said Sullivan.

Need For Speed Shift is a wonderful game that recently appeared in AppStore. Many users want to customize and enhance their cars, but they need a lot of money for that. Now users of jailbreaked iPhones can use a money patch from Cydia, that will solve this problem with $6 000 000.

Skype, the iPhone and iPod Touch application through which you can call and chat with your Skype contacts, has been updated to version 1.2. There are many updates and new features.

What’s new in version 1.2:

• Set up call forwarding from your iPhone – forward Skype calls to a phone number when you’re not signed in.
• Improved performance and better audio quality on Skype-to-Skype calls.
• Even easier to send text messages (SMS) – Send SMS from the Call tab.
• Calls are connected much faster.
• Status of your contacts is updated more often.
• You can now decide whether you want to stay online/offline when the iPhone is  locked. We’ve added this into settings.
• Contact groups are now supported, making it easier to see who is online and separate your saved phone numbers.
• You can now edit the name of your saved phone numbers.
• Added support for skype: URL schemes in Safari.
• When creating a new account the country in your Skype profile is taken from the language used on your iPhone.

If you have done jailbreak, don’t worry. During first launch Skype will pop up a message showing that it works only on unmodified iPhones and iPods. But it is not true. It works just fine.

AppStore and iTunes are great. But when we want other useful apps we jailbreak and run Cydia. Some use Installer, others prefer Icy. Here is a demonstration of new app to install 3-rd party apps called Kryptes:

iSpazio reported a very strange AppStore applicatin called Photo Effects. There are clear references to Jailbreak due to the presence of 4 icons: “Installer” “launcher”, “Terminal” and “DockSwap”. Furthermore, the screenshot is quite old, was shot by the application “Dock” and portrays the 1.1.1 firmware. Open bets: How fast it will be eliminated from AppStore?

Wallpaper Labeler (AppStore link) and gCalWall Lite (AppStore link) let you add appointments and notes to the home screen. With Wallpaper Labeler, you can enter any text you want to your wallpaper, so you can leave yourself (or whoever finds your phone) notes. The other app, gCalWall, pulls down upcoming appointments from your default Google Calendar and splays them all over your home screen. You have to update it manually, which is kind of a drag, but the dev says that iPhone API won’t allow for automatic updating. Both apps are free

In the past you could only use Intelliscreen paid app on a jailbreaked iPhone.

Mini vMac is a crazy emulator for jailbroken iPhones that lets you run the Mac Plus OS on your iPhone. This is not an official appstore product so you’ll have to jailbreak your iPhone and add namedfork.net to your Cydia repository list. It will appear under Emulation.

Emoji, emoticons and pictorial characters popular in the Japanese instant messaging culture, were introduced to Japanese customers as part of the iPhone 2.2 Firmware update, but have required workarounds to be enabled for non-Japanese users. There are many solutins to turn Emiji Icons (Get Emoji Icons for free), but the easy one required jailbreaking. Recently Apple approved an application that simplifies this process. App is called EmotiFun and it is free (AppStore link).

Everything is simple: get app, run it, exit and go to Settings -> General -> Keyboard -> International Keyboards -> Japanese and enable.

Crackulous is an application that cracks AppStore apps. It is avaliable through Cydia for jailbreaked iPhones. Repository is http://cydia.hackulo.us
