According to the latest rumors, both Evasi0n and Pangu jailbreak utilities have been recently nominated for 2014 Pwnie Awards. This award is presented to those developers and security researchers, who find bugs or important exploits in the software. This year’s award will be given to a developer (or the developers) that made some important discoveries in the period of the past twelve months.

jailbreak award 500x203 Evasi0n and Pangu Jailbreak Utilities Are Nominated for 2014 Pwnie Awards

Both the Evasi0n and Pangu jailbreaks for iOS 7 have been nominated for 2014 Pwnie awards. The Pwnie Awards celebrate the achievements of security researchers and developers who find certain bugs and exploits. The awards cover bugs disclosed over the last year (July 2013 – June 2014).

Last year the Pwnie Award was given to a developer nicknamed Planetbeing. It is very difficult to predict whom judges will choose this year as both Evasi0n and Pangu tools for jailbreak are worth winning the award.

If to speak about me, I would probably choose Evasi0n as the people behind this product were using their own exploits and methods for jailbreaking iOS 7, unlike the authors of Pangu.

Popular hacker MuscleNerd has denied rumors that a bootrom exploit has been found for the iPhone. Earlier today, he tweeted:

There is no A5+ bootrom exploit, by anyone. Not even a bootrom dump. Nothing.

Speculation that a bootrom exploit may have been found began after p0sixninja tweeted that he would be releasing something bigger than a jailbreak.

The bootrom exploit can devices permanently vulnerable to a tethered jailbreak regardless of iOS version. The last bootrom exploit was limera1n found by Geohot which supported A4 devices like iPhone 4 and below.

geohot1 Geohot To Release Untethered iOS 4.2.1 Jailbreak

Last week we reported that the well-known hacker Geohot might call his next jailbreak tool rubyra1n. Now guts from Dev Team hit that they know something about Geohot’s effort to bring a proper untethered jailbreak to iOS 4.2.1.

A recent tweet from MuscleNerd confirms the rumors: “I hear geohot does have an untether actually! Though not for all devices”.

rubyra1n Is Rubyra1n Geohot’s Next Jailbreak Tool?

May be soon we will jailbreak our devices with a new tool from George Hotz (better known as Geohot) called Rubyra1n. On March 27, 2010 George Hotz registered two domains limera1n.com and blackra1n.com, another jailbreak tool Hotz released last year. The new rubyra1n, however, doesn’t share the same data with limera1n.com — an app released in October to jailbreak iOS 4.1. Geohot doesn’t comment these rumors anyhow, but we, obviously, wouldn’t be surprised at all to see him coming out with his own iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak for all devices.

musclenerd MuscleNerd: iPhone 4 jailbreak+unlock not today

MuscleNerd, hacker from DevTeam, commented via twitter on recent rumors that universal jailbreak (all iPhones and all firmwares, including iPhone 4 and iOS 4.0.1) will be released today. The basic answer is no, there will be no jailbreak today.

Not to make it a daily thing, but since somehow people thought it would be today: the new JB+unlock won’t be out today

(there are issues with important apps like Facetime that need to be figured out…no sense releasing a half-broken JB)

Geohot has tweeted  saying that the jailbreak is easy but it only helps those who are dumb enough to upgrade.

I hear rumors going around that the 3.1.3 jailbreak is hard. It isn’t. But the only people it helps are those dumb enough to upgrade. Sorry.

These words indicate that it is unlikely the BlackRa1n jailbreak will be upgraded soon to support the new firmware.

firmware 31 Firmware 3.1 arrives September 17?

Playing with the latest beta software for iPhone, one of iH8sn0w employees (firmware 3.1 beta 3 jailbreak utility), found that the expiry date for latest firmware is September 18.

Firmware 3.1 will be probably released 1 or 2 days before the expiration of the beta. This means that Apple might perform a release during the Apple event in September. However this event is dedicated to the music, so we cannot be sure.

The only certain knowledge is that by the middle of next month we will see either 3.1 beta 4 or 3.1 release.

autocorrect iPhone 2.2: Google Street View, Emoji, Auto Correction Off

Apple released firmware version 2.2 beta 1 a bit more than a week ago. Couple more features were hiden there.

First of all Apple has addressed one common request within the iPhone’s Keyboard settings, allowing users to disable the iPhone’s auto-correction.

The other feature is for Japanese market – Japanese emoji icons. The lack of emoji support has been blamed as part of the reason for slow iPhone adoption in Japan.

The third new feature is Street View. It allows users to view panoramic street level photographs in select cities within the Google Maps application.

Hopefully we will see more new features in this and next beta’s of 2.2 firmware.
