The original Wolfenstein is now available for free for the iPhone. You need to jailbreak your phone to get in on the fun. The game is truly a classic. This is a first-person shooter in which we should govern our character among many doors and endless mazes. The controls are “fairly” good, based solely on the touch screen.

Perceptive Development developed a hardware and software solution that allows infrared keyboards to be used for typing on the iPhone, using less than $20 of electronics. They have managed to get an external keyboard working via a custom connection built for the headphone jack. Headphone jack in/out hardware is one of the few interfaces that’s open in the official SDK.

They have built a microcontroller that converts input from an external Targus IR keyboard into a format the iPhone’s headphone jack can understand, which is then fed to a terminal app that doesn’t require jailbreak. Nice!

iPhone 3.0 OS is jailbreakable on all devices. It’s just those using 3G yellowsn0w that have to show some restraint and wait for PwnageTool to create a custom IPSW that avoids the baseband update. If you are using yellowsn0w, do not update or restore to iPhone 3.0 firmware.  You will lose yellowsn0w and find yourself unable to revert the baseband to get it back.

Clippy is an iPhone addition from Cydia for copy/paste functionality. It was updated to version 0.96-1. Many issues are resolved and a lot of bugs fixed. Among these are: the ability to copy text from Safari, the ability to copy text from messages or biteSMS and Fix for the Mail application, many different crashes, etc.

Instructions:

• Press-and-hold on list items to invoke Clippy on static text
• Press-and-hold on the keyboard’s “123″ button to invoke Clippy on editable text
• Tap-pause-and-drag to highlight portions of editable text (except in web pages)

Wallpaper Labeler (AppStore link) and gCalWall Lite (AppStore link) let you add appointments and notes to the home screen. With Wallpaper Labeler, you can enter any text you want to your wallpaper, so you can leave yourself (or whoever finds your phone) notes. The other app, gCalWall, pulls down upcoming appointments from your default Google Calendar and splays them all over your home screen. You have to update it manually, which is kind of a drag, but the dev says that iPhone API won’t allow for automatic updating. Both apps are free

In the past you could only use Intelliscreen paid app on a jailbreaked iPhone.

Just a few hours ago new version of SwirlyMMS was released. This software enables you to receive and send MMS from your iPhone. The cahnges are mostely in design part, new user interface. It was also translated into different languages (SwirlyMMSLangPack).

The new version of xGPS is finally out. Avaliable in Cydia for jailbreaked iPhones. The biggest improvement of this version, as you know, is the support for the voice instructions.

Discover is an application that allows you to transfer files and documents from one iPhone to another, or to a computer. It uses WiFi connection on both devices. Might be quite useful.

Here’s a new video from Raif Ackermann. Raif managed to communicate the iPhone with the Apple Wireless keyboard.

He used jailbreaking and a special software that he wrote by himself.

SouthPark app was rejected by Apple. The developers found the solution. Now it is avaliable via Cydia for jailbreaked iPhones. It is called SouthPark Mobile.
