shatter appletv The Apple TV has just been jailbroken

Today the new Apple TV has been jailbroken by hacker MuscleNerd from DevTeam. He used the SHAtter exploit. This means that hackers were able to gain full access to the device. Here is MuscleNerd’s comment on twitter:

AppleTV 2G SHAttered and jailbroken (not quite sure how to run apps yet!)

MuscleNerd and the rest of the Dev-Team will probably create a public release of some utility soon. Here is a youtube video showing off the jailbroken device:

110 Jailbreaking of New Apple TV Eased by iTunes Restore Capabilities

Twitter user with nickname StealthBravo recently confirmed that the new Apple TV can be restored in iTunes as well as any iOS device, easing the way for jailbreakers to bring new functionality to the set-top box. This means that the hackers soon be able to offer us tools, as they currently do for other iOS devices, to save SHSH blobs, jailbreak the Apple TV, and install 3rd party software.

Moreover, Apple TV offers a Micro-USB port for connectivity, but the port also offers a means for users to physically connect the device to computers to employ the techniques required for jailbreak of operating system.

jailbreak ios41 ipod4g iPod Touch 4G with iOS 4.1 is jailbroken

The new exploit is called SHAtter. It was developed by hacker pod2g a few months after hacker p0sixninja from the Chronic Dev Team discovered the crash. The same exploit can be used to jailbreak iPhone 4 and iPad with new firmwares. So iOS 4.1 and maybe even iOS 4.2 is not a problem any more. Soon we will see the utilities from DevTeam to perform the jailbreak.

The DevTeam published a video if a jailbroken iPod Touch 4G. Take a look:

redsn0w 0 9 6 b1 370x400 Jailbreak iOS 4.1 with RedSn0w 0.9.6 b1

DevTeam recently released new version of redsn0w to jailbreak iOS 4.1. New RedSn0w 0.9.6 b1 supports iOS 4.0 and iOS 4.1 running on iPhone 3G or iPod touch 2G.

There is only Mac OS X x86 version, that you can download here.

Redsn0w is easy to use:

  1. Download firmware here.
  2. Launch redsn0w 0.9.6 b1
  3. Select your stock 4.1 or 4.0 ipsw (you’ve already used this to update your device to 4.1 or  4.0)
  4. Select “Install Cydia” and any of the other options shown above, then click “Next”.  Use DFU mode to install the jailbreak.

As usual DevTeam reminds us:

IF YOU USE THE ULTRASN0W UNLOCK, PLEASE WAIT FOR PWNAGETOOL TO SUPPORT 4.1.  DO NOT USE REDSN0W

That’s because to use redsn0w at 4.1, you need to already have updated to official 4.1 from Apple.  If you do that, you lose the ultrasn0w unlock (possibly forever).

iOS4.14.2Jailbreak 200x300 Comex Wont Release iOS 4.1 Jailbreak

Only a few days passed since Dev Team has confirmed that Comex will try to jailbreak iOS 4.1, using other exploit. However, according to the response received on Twitter, it became known that Comex may not take part in the new iOS 4.x jailbreak.

Comex replied to the message on Twitter in such a way: “ariif, the next jailbreak might not be from me :) ”.

Of course, it does not mean that Comex leaves the scene and would not take part in jailbreaking as Geohot, most likely it is only this version he isn’t planning to jailbreak. Nevertheless the smile in his reply certainly means something good…

FixFacebookforiPhone3.2Problem 200x300 How to Fix Facebook for iPhone 3.2Facebook for iPhone 3.2 was released last night and now it supports the newly created function “Places”, background downloading of photos and videos in iOS 4, together with other visual enhancements, such as “pull-to-refresh” for the iPhone. However, for many users, this new version was mostly broken, with the following error “Unable to load the page” on most of its pages. Yes, and if you try to uninstall and reinstall the application, it simply refuses to “Log in”.

As it turned out, this problem occurs on jailbroken iPhones for those users who have installed the application BiteSMS from Cydia. The new Facebook application for iPhone 3.2 is not compatible with the current version of BiteSMS. So if you have installed this application, removing it from Cydia, you’ll solve this problem, at least it really helped some of the users.

We hope that the new version of BiteSMS will be released pretty soon and will be compatible with this new version of Facebook for iPhone.

iOS4 300x46 Software Update to Fix iPhone 3G Performance Issues is on Its WaySteve Jobs, Apple’s CEO, confirmed that the new software update iOS 4.x will appear in the near future to correct performance problems on the iPhone 3G, which works on iOS 4.x. He confirmed it while answering to the email he got from a user who was disappointed with the iPhone 3G performance running on iOS 4, describing it as “dog slow”.

Although he did not mention a specific version or date of its release we can guess that he was specking about iOS 4.1, which is going to be released next month, when iTV (Apple TV) and the next generation iPod touch will spotlight.

T1000 300x208 iPhone 5 to Be Made of Liquid Metal, à la T 1000 from Terminator 2?Do you remember the robot called T-1000 Skynet made of liquid metal in the film Terminator 2? It seems that Steve Jobs decided to create devices of next generation using Liquidmetal Technologies, a California company from which Apple has recently acquired the exclusive rights for creation of liquid metal alloy products.

One of the best and most distinctive factors in all Apple products is how this company produces its own devices, the quality of production, as well as the materials used, which, undoubtedly, have first-class quality.

Now that Apple has the exclusive rights to create products of the liquid metal, we can assume that it has no plans to create a robot for the next Terminator movie, but probably will use it for such devices as iMac, iPad and iPhone of the next generation in order to be one step ahead of its competitors.

pdffix Saurik released a PDF patch for older and already jailbroken iOS devices

As you may know, few days ago Apple had released a new version of iOS for all its mobile devices except first-generation iPhone and iPod touch, so owners of the latter are still not protected from a security flaw that allows hackers to obtain a remote control of their handsets. In fact, the latest compatible version for them is currently iOS 3.1.3.

But Saurik (who is known as a developer of Cydia) recently announced on the Dev-Team blog that he released a PDF patch that is compatible with any iOS version down to 2.x. It can be found in Cydia if you’ll search for “PDF Patch”. After installing it you can check if the patch is working properly with visiting jailbreakme.com page. After sliding the box to jailbreak you should only see the star background (and not a dialog box), which means you are no longer vulnerable.

In its blog Dev-Team also noted:

“Since the only reason for 4.0.2 was to fix the security holes, and since the upcoming Cydia package will fix them too (and then some!), everybody should sit tight on 4.0.1 (or lower) and install the Cydia package as soon as it’s out. Jailbreakers can have their cake and eat it too.”
