absinthe jailbreak Absinthe Jailbreak Utility Updated to v0.3, Released for Linux

The Chronic Dev-Team has released an update to their Absinthe jailbreak utility for iPhone 4S and iPad 2. So users who failed to jailbreak can try with new version Absinthe 0.3. Chronic Dev-Team also released a version for Linux users.

@pimskeks announced the release over Twitter:

Linux version (x86/x86_64) of #Absinthe #A5 #jailbreak is done!

Also version 0.3 of #Absinthe #A5 #jailbreak is available for OSX and Windows. Nothing really new, so no need to re-apply :-)

#Absinthe 0.3 only has some cosmetic changes, and a potential bug fix for win32 (only really few people seem affected)

You can download Absinthe for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux from here.

Jailbreak iPhone4S Untethered jailbreak for iPad 2 and iPhone 4S will be released in a few days

The ‘dream team‘ of iPhone hackers has made more progress on the A5 jailbreak with planetbeing just announcing that they’re out of Apple’s sandbox.

And we’re out of the sandbox with @saurik’s invaluable help! (well, at least there’s a PoC) :D Turning out more complex than X-Gold 618.

pod2g also mentioned progress in twitter:

@planetbeing escaped from the sandbox with the help of @saurik. Thanks to their awesome work, there should be nothing left blocking for the A5 jailbreak. Now it should be a matter of days. Still no precise ETA of course.

Now that the team has been successful in breaking out of Apple’s sandbox (which lets them run unsigned code) they’ll focus their attention on writing the Mac OS X and Windows software utilities.

“Now it should be a matter of days” means that jailbreak utilities will be released very soon, maybe next week.

redsn0w 099b5 mac1 311x400 iOS 5 jailbreak is ready (RedSn0w 0.9.9b5) redsn0w 099b5 mac2 311x400 iOS 5 jailbreak is ready (RedSn0w 0.9.9b5)

The iPhone Dev-Team has released RedSn0w 0.9.9b5 – an official tethered jailbreak for iOS 5. Users don’t have to point to downloaded iOS 5 ipws any more. Just run and jailbreak.

Currently only the Mac version has been made available. Windows version is coming soon. However Windows users can still jailbreak iOS 5 with Redsn0w 0.9.9.b4, – just go to “Extras” -> “Select IPWS” and select your iOS 5 ipsw file (can download here).

Good news for users who need carrier unlock (ultrasn0w or Gevey Sim). With RedSn0w 0.9.9b5 you can update to iOS 5 and preserve the baseband (modem) version for unlock:

The new “Custom IPSW” button on the Extras screen will create a custom IPSW without the baseband update for 4.3.3 or 5.0gm (iPhone3GS and iPhone4 only, for now). Remember not to accidentally restore to the stock IPSW after you create the custom one! The custom one begins with NO_BB_ (for “no baseband”).

You must enter “Pwned DFU” mode before trying to use the NO_BB_ IPSW with iTunes (and your hosts file cannot be pointing to Cydia’s servers due to the new blob nonce mechanism they’re using in iOS5).

We will update our step-by-step tutorials soon.

You can download RedSn0w 0.9.9b5 (Mac) and RedSn0w 0.9.9b4 (Windows) here.

PS: RedSn0w 0.9.9 is a bit different from 0.9.8 version. You can learn more about other new redsn0w 0.9.9 features here.

jailbreak Jailbreak & Unlock tutorials and FAQ

UPDATE: Apple latest firmware is iOS 5.1.1. Apple has stopped signing all other firmwares, including iOS 5.0.1, iOS 4.3.3 and iOS 4.3.5. This means you can NOT restore to 5.0.1/4.3.3/4.3.5 any more (both original and custom), unless you have saved your SHSH keys for it.

If you have decided to perform an untethered jailbreak and unlock, you need to get the following information:

  1. What type of device do you have (iPhone 3G/3GS/4, iPod Touch 3G/4G, iPad 1/2, Apple TV)?
  2. Do you need unlock (if your iPhone locked to one carrier and you want to use it with another)?
The answer is NO, if the device is not iPhone, if it was purchased as factory unlocked and can be used with any cellular carrier (f.e. in Canada, France, etc).
If the answer is YES, you need to find out your modem version (Setting-General-About-Modem).
  3. What firmware version do you have? Take a look at Setting-General-About-Version. For example it could be iOS 4.3.3.
  4. What operating system do you use on your desktop (Windows, Mac OS)?

How to perform jailbreak, when you do NOT need an unlock

For iPhone 3G the latest is iOS 4.2.1. You can perform jailbreak with any utility. For iOS 4.2.1 you can also use them or GreenPois0n (Windows, Mac OS).

iPad 2 jailbreak is available only for iOS 4.3.3 via JailbreakMe and and iOS 5.0.1 via Absenthe.

iPhone 4S jailbreak is available for iOS 5.0 / iOS 5.0.1 via Absenthe.

iOS 4.3.3

Apple stopped signing iOS 4.3.3, so you cannot update to iOS 4.3.3 without SHSH keys saved (in advance some time ago). If you have iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 1, iPod Touch 3G or iPod Touch 4G that run iOS 4.3.3 – use JailbreakMe or RedSn0w to untether jailbreak your device.

If you have saved SHSH keys for iOS 4.3.3 you can use PwnageTool (Mac OS) or Sn0wBreeze (Windows).

iOS 4.3.4/4.3.5

For iOS 4.3.4/4.3.5 only tethered jailbreak is possible with redsn0w. Tethered means that each time you restart your device you will have to connect it to a computer and run redsn0w. The untethered iOS 4.3.5 jailbreak is possible only for iPhone 3GS with old bootrom. You can detect your bootrom version using this tutorial.

iOS 5

To jailbreak and unlock iOS 5 use latest version of redsn0w 0.9.9 or sn0wbreeze 2.8. You can jailbreak tethered or semi-tethered.

The untethered iOS 5 jailbreak is possible only for iPhone 3GS with old bootrom. You can detect your bootrom version using this tutorial.

iOS 5.0.1

For iPhone 4/3GS, iPad 1, iPod Touch 3G/4G an untethered jailbreak is available for iOS 5.0.1. For untethered jailbreak use the latest redsn0w 0.9.10 or Corona – package from Cydia to untether currently installed tethered jailbreak.

Tutorial how to untether installed tethered jailbreak is available here.

For iPhone 4S and iPad 2 use Absenthe.

For tethered iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak you an use redsn0w 0.9.9 and sn0wbreeze 2.8.

iOS 5.1 / iOS 5.1.1

For now only tethered jailbreak is available for iPhone 4/3GS, iPad 1 and iPod Touch 3G/4G for iOS 5.1 and iOS 5.1.1.

You can download all firmwares here.

ios5 redsn0w 500x205 iOS 5 jailbreak released: Redsn0w 0.9.8 b1

MuscleNerd recently Tweeted that iOS 5 beta 1 jailbreak is already available. DevTeam released Redsn0w 0.9.8 b1.

For now the jailbreak is tethered (you have to run redsn0w each time you reboot) and available for Mac OS X only. It will not activate your device, so you need have registered UDID. iPhone 3GS users with 06.15 baseband: redsn0w will get you past the iTunes restore error. This redsn0w will probably work on future versions of iOS 5.

Redsn0w 0.9.8 b1 works with iOS 5 b1 on iPhone 4 (GSM / CDMA), iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 3G, iPod Touch 4G, iPad 1.

This is mostely for developers of Cydia apps. Most tweaks and Cydia applications do not work on iOS 5.

You can download Redsn0w 0.9.8 b1 here.

iOS 5 Download links for iOS 5.0 beta 1 and iTunes 10.5 beta

Apple recently released iOS 5 beta and iTues 10.5 beta. It is available only for Apple registered developers. But you can try it too. Remember that you do it at your own risk. Below you will find iOS 5 download links for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 3G, iPod Touch 4G, iPad 1, iPad 2, Apple TV 2G and download links to iTunes 10.5 Mac and Windows.

Keep in mind that your iDevice will need to be activated, your UUID needs to be registered in Apple. Installing iOS beta on a non-activated device will render it useless. If you need help with registering UUID – write us, we will try to help..

Remember that currently there is no jailbreak for iOS 5 released.

You can download iOS 5.0 beta 1 and iTunes 10.5 beta here.

redsn0w rc101 RedSn0w 0.9.6 rc11 released

DevTeam released a new version of RedSn0w 0.9.6 rc10. Short after that they released a fix for that – RedSn0w 0.9.6 rc11.

DevTeam have added boot animation logo, removed some unnecessary settings, and fixed some bugs.

Everything else is the same – untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3.1 for all devices and both Windows and Mac OS X users.

You can download the latest RedSn0w here.

Those running redsn0w may have noticed we enabled too many Settings options in some versions of the jailbreak (for instance, what you want your side switch to do, even if you have no side switch because you’re not using an iPad). Release rc10 of redsn0w corrects that (you can just run it over your existing jailbreak…be sure to de-select Cydia to avoid package conflicts).

Along the way, we’ve also added the option to enable boot animations…these animations can be installed via Cydia, but be sure to select which animation to use via the Settings->Bootlogo setting after you’ve downloaded an animation (and again, you can just run rc10 rc11 over your existing jailbreak…be sure to de-select Cydia to avoid package conflicts).

(The boot animation we tested against was “Android Boot Logo”. It correctly installs all the dependencies needed to run the animation at each boot).

redsn0w_0.9.6rc11: (rc11 makes the boot animation a bit more robust across all devices)

pwnagetool413 3gs 3 300x267 Step by step Tutorial: jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 on iPhone/iPod/iPad using PwnageTool 4.2 (Mac OS)

UPDate: save your iOS 4.2.1 SHSH blobs now!

UPDate 2: Attention! We’ve received info, that Apple stopped signing iOS 4.2 for devices for which iOS 4.3 is available. This means you will not be able to restore to 4.2.1 without saved SHSH keys.

Using this tutorial you will be able to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 running on iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 3G, iPod Touch 4G and iPad. Pwnagetool will also preserve baseband version if you need carrier unlock. If you have updated the baseband to version 06.15, you can use this tutorial. This tutorial uses PwnageTool 4.2 for Mac OS X.

We are not developers of jailbreak utilities, so we cannot assure that everything will work just fine. However we tried this tutorial on several devices and succeeded.

We will use iPhone 4 in our jailbreak tutorial. The process is the same for all devices.

Step One
Make a folder called “Pwnage” on the desktop. Download a couple of things:
