ios5tweakcomp iOS 5: Cydia Tweaks Compatibillity List

iOS 5 is currently jailbreakable using redsn0w 0.9.9b5 or sn0wbreeze 2.8b8. So developers are working hard to update their apps and tweaks to work with iOS 5. Here is a useful spreadsheet, where you can find information, whether or not your favorite Cydia tweak or app is compatible with iOS 5:

redsn0w 099b1 336x400 RedSn0w 0.9.9b1: Major Update to Jailbreak Utility redsn0w 099b1 extra 336x400 RedSn0w 0.9.9b1: Major Update to Jailbreak Utility

MuscleNerd has announced via Twitter that jailbreak utility RedSn0w 0.9.9b1 is released with major update and numerous new features:

Major improvements and features added to redsn0w 0.9.9b1! See update #9 at http://is.gd/6eek4Y Feedback: @redsn0w_testers

Indeed the list of new features is quite high. There are two main ones:

  • There is no need to download firmware any more. There is no need to push Browse IPWS button any more (but you still can).
  • Developers added lots of functionality to work with SHSH keys (extract, submit, download, verify, stitch etc)

However this new version does not bring features like untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3.5 or iOS 5.

Due to some possible bugs we still recommend to use the old RedSn0w 0.9.8b7b, but the new 0.9.9b1 is worth seeing and playing with.

Here is the full list of features from DevTeam:

Update #9: A bunch of new features!

  • uses DFU mode to try to automatically determine which device and FW you have
  • fetches pieces of public IPSWs from Apple (once).  Non-public IPSWs must be provided manually (once).  It then caches those pieces for future use.
  • Just boot” is a tethered boot.  Uses whatever “Preferences” you’ve set for boot logo and kernel boot-args
  • Pwned DFU” puts your device in a pwned DFU state for some of the iTunes stuff detailed below
  • Recovery fix” gets past 1015 types of errors (when baseband portion of restore fails).  Should work on iOS5 beta too
  • Select IPSW” is for picking non-public IPSWs, or overriding auto-detection
  • SHSH blobs” has a bunch of options…
    • Fetch” – fetch current PARTIAL blobs on device.  Should complete in under 10 or 15 seconds.  Puts the set of PARTIAL of blobs on your computer as a plist.  Checks if Cydia already has a full set for this device and build.  If not, it submits this PARTIAL set and returns Cydia’s acknowledgement or rejection
    • Verify”  – cryptographically verifies existing blob files from either redsn0w, TinyUmbrella, or Cydia server.  You can select a whole bunch of blobs to verify at once if you want (like the TinyUmbrella directory)
    • Submit”  – both verifies and submits one or more blob files to Cydia.  This lets you copy your entire TinyUmbrella cache of blobs up to the Cydia server
    • Query” - queries the Cydia server for all available FULL or PARTIAL blobs for a given set of ECIDs
    • Stitch” – stitches either FULL or PARTIAL blobs to a STOCK or CUSTOM IPSW
  1. Stitching is NOT yet supported on iPhones! Need to work out the baseband part of the restore process.
  2. FULL blobs stitched to a STOCK IPSW gives you a completely self-contained signed IPSW that iTunes will accept without any tricks (no need to go into pwned DFU mode, no need to start TinyUmbrella TSS server, no need to redirect to Cydia server for blobs)
  3. PARTIAL blobs stitched to any IPSW requires you to go into pwned DFU mode before running iTunes.  No need to start TU or use Cydia though.
  4. Stitching either FULL or PARTIAL blobs to a CUSTOM IPSW also requires a pwned DFU start before iTunes restores.  No need to start TU or use Cydia though./li>
  5. Will eventually support fetching the blobs directly from Cydia instead of a file on your computer

redsn0w 098b7b 318x400 RedSn0w 0.9.8b7b: untethered 4.3.5 jailbreak for iPhone 3GS and full support for iOS 5 Beta 7

The iPhone Dev-Team has released RedSn0w 0.9.8b7b to bring two new main features:

Musclenerd posted via twitter:

New redsn0w is.gd/6eek4Y explicitly supports iOS5b7 (no need to point at b6 IPSW). Also brings back old-bootrom 3GS goodies.

This is great news for both developers and owners of old bootrom iPhone 3GS’s who accidentally updated to iOS 4.3.5.

DevTeam posted:

About 12 hours after we released redsn0w 0.9.8b7 with some improvements for iOS5b6, Apple went and released iOS5b7 (what are the odds of that?!?). Even though that redsn0w could still jailbreak iOS5b7, you needed to point it at the iOS5b6 IPSW to do so. Today’s redsn0w 0.9.8b7b lets you point redsn0w directly at the iOS5b7 IPSW instead.

We’ve also added some overall improvements for old-bootrom 3GS owners (where the 24kpwn exploit applies): on those devices, you can tell redsn0w to untether 4.3.5 and lower, or iOS5b7. Old-bootrom 3GS owners can once again choose custom logos, and/or verbose booting (for the really nerdy iPhone3GS fans out there!). And it allows 4.3.4 or 4.3.5 users to use ultrasn0w again (if they have a compatible baseband).

Last but not least, we fixed some lingering Verizon iPhone4 4.2.10 JB issues.

We will update our tutorials shortly.

sn0wbreeze 28b4 500x398 Sn0wBreeze updated to jailbreak iOS 5.0 beta 3

iH8Sn0w has released a new version of Sn0wBreeze 2.8 b4 with iOS 5.0 beta 3 jailbreak support. Sn0wBreeze is a so-called PwnageTool for Windows, an application that creates a custom ipsw with jailbreak preserving old baseband.

The jailbreak is tethered for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS (new bootrom), iPad, iPod Touch 3G and iPod Touch 4G. Jailbreak is untethered for iPhone 3GS with old bootrom.

You can download Sn0wBreeze 2.8 b4 here.

Those wondering, the jailbreakme exploit
cannot be integrated into applications
such as PwnageTool/redsn0w/sn0wbreeze.
---------------------------------------------
redsn0w seems to be having sandbox errors
due to it using the old b1 kernel.
I and many others have not seen any issues
with sn0wbreeze related to AppStore apps.
If you prefer to use redsn0w, I am sure
@MuscleNerd is working on a fix.

ios 5 beta 3 jailbreak Jailbreak iOS 5 beta 3

iOS 5 beta 3 is jailbreakable by RedSn0w 0.9.8 b1. DevTeam hacker MuscleNerd has confirmed that the RedSn0w 0.9.8 b1 jailbreak works on recently released iOS 5 Beta 3. All you have to do is to point it to a downloaded iOS 5 beta 1 firmware ipsw.

Today’s 5.0b3 can be jailbroken with last month’s redsn0w http://is.gd/6eek4Y (point it at 5.0b1 IPSW..devs only please!)

RedSn0w 0.9.8 b1 jailbreak works on all devices, exect iPad 2. This means you can get a tethered jailbreak on Windows and Mac OS for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 3G, iPod Touch 4G and iPad 1.

You can download RedSn0w 0.9.8 b1 for Windows and Mac OS here.

ios5 redsn0w 500x205 iOS 5 jailbreak released: Redsn0w 0.9.8 b1

MuscleNerd recently Tweeted that iOS 5 beta 1 jailbreak is already available. DevTeam released Redsn0w 0.9.8 b1.

For now the jailbreak is tethered (you have to run redsn0w each time you reboot) and available for Mac OS X only. It will not activate your device, so you need have registered UDID. iPhone 3GS users with 06.15 baseband: redsn0w will get you past the iTunes restore error. This redsn0w will probably work on future versions of iOS 5.

Redsn0w 0.9.8 b1 works with iOS 5 b1 on iPhone 4 (GSM / CDMA), iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 3G, iPod Touch 4G, iPad 1.

This is mostely for developers of Cydia apps. Most tweaks and Cydia applications do not work on iOS 5.

You can download Redsn0w 0.9.8 b1 here.

pwnagetool413 3gs 3 300x267 Step by step Tutorial: jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 on iPhone/iPod/iPad using PwnageTool 4.2 (Mac OS)

UPDate: save your iOS 4.2.1 SHSH blobs now!

UPDate 2: Attention! We’ve received info, that Apple stopped signing iOS 4.2 for devices for which iOS 4.3 is available. This means you will not be able to restore to 4.2.1 without saved SHSH keys.

Using this tutorial you will be able to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 running on iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 3G, iPod Touch 4G and iPad. Pwnagetool will also preserve baseband version if you need carrier unlock. If you have updated the baseband to version 06.15, you can use this tutorial. This tutorial uses PwnageTool 4.2 for Mac OS X.

We are not developers of jailbreak utilities, so we cannot assure that everything will work just fine. However we tried this tutorial on several devices and succeeded.

We will use iPhone 4 in our jailbreak tutorial. The process is the same for all devices.

Step One
Make a folder called “Pwnage” on the desktop. Download a couple of things:

android market

This week Google has released a new version of its client app for Android Market, which will work on any smartphone running Android OS 1.6 or higher.

The company aims to facilitate the process of discovering new software and its purchase. That’s why new Android Market will have a Cover Flow-like style of app listings and include new categories like Widgets and Live Wallpapers, as currently the catalog is filled pretty much with these kinds of software. Besides that, app pages will now have more info and links to related content.

Some changes were made to the policy of software returns. If earlier user could take his money back in case he didn’t like the app he bought within 24 hours, now this time is shortened to 15 minutes.

As the number of Android devices continues to grow and it becomes hard for developers to make their apps hardware compatible with as many existing handsets as possible, Google presents its new solution:

“To make it easier for developers to distribute and manage their products, we will introduce support for device targeting based on screen sizes and densities, as well as on GL texture compression formats.”

Another important feature of new Android Market is a new limitation of app file size, which is now extended to 50 MB (earlier it was 25 MB). This is still 40 times smaller than the current limitation for iOS apps (2GB). This can be explained by the fact that iOS apps can be downloaded not only via its mobile client (like apps for Android), but also via iTunes, that can be connected to the Internet in any possible way and thus capable to download such amounts of information. Nevertheless, some developers pass this limitation by offering tiny apps for Android that can download necessary files (like music, textures, video) of any size after its purchase.

However, Google’s attempts to create a rival to an App Store still are not successful as they can be. AppleInsider has studied the subject and revealed that the Android’s openness has led to a number of cases when popular titles like Radiant were cracked to be used as illegal copies by “97% of players in Asia, 70% in Europe and 43% in North America”. That’s why most of developers like Rovio (which created Angry Birds) offer free versions of their apps to earn money from showing the ads. But that kind of income is not as profitable as offering paid apps, which makes iOS more attractive for developers than Android.

It was also noted that Android Market offers poor security for users, though this situation can be changed by cleaning up the store. At least, that was what the developer of DoubleTwist Jon Lech Johansen advised Google more than a half a year ago, but the company has not still made any steps in that direction.
